Welcome to the BSG Policy Action Group

The intention of this action group is to engage and educate BSG members and the broader public on sustainability related policies and to advocate for the adoption of these policies. All policies developed will assist with our vision of Bendigo becoming a sustainable city and will always be linked back to this vision or the relevant parts of this vision when communicating with others.

This action group fits very well with one of the BSG visions developed in last years strategy which is “to influence government policy and translate it for the community”.  Key activities would be:
  • to engage in conversations with others about sustainability related issues and associated policies to address these issues as relevant to Bendigo;
  • to develop BSG policy positions on sustainability related issues as relevant to Bendigo;
  • to communicate these policy positions to its members and to the broader public;
  • to advocate for these policies to be implemented in Local, State and Federal governments where relevant and appropriate, this may include submissions to strategies or plans or policies that are put forward by governments that are not aligned to our policy positions.

The action group will start with a monthly coffee catchup. Each meeting we’ll pick an issue for discussion and  start developing a draft policy position on that particular issue over coffee and a scrumptious brekky if desired.  Any draft policies will be passed onto the BSG committee (and membership in some cases) for discussion and approval. We’ll come up with a plan on how to communicate this, engage with others on this and advocate for these policies to be implemented as we go.
