Reducing Energy Use
Written by Dave Brownbill

Whilst recently chatting with friends, the subject of reducing energy usage came up.  The question they, as many of us have asked is, "What should I do first?".  It's not an easy question to answer but I've been asking members of the BSG what they would do - here's the first of a number of ideas you might (if you've not already done so) want to try. Click here for the first 5 ideas.

If you've any ideas you want to share yourself email me on  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Bendigo Big Solar Campaign Launch
Written by Karen Corr
Big Solar Campaign Launch 3rd March

Please note that despite the weather, this launch will still be on. We will meet under the sheltered area of the Bendigo Library. Be there for our big group photo. See you there!

A group of BSG Members are taking part in this year’s National launch of the Let’s Build Big Solar Campaign on the 3rd March.

One of the parts of our vision is that Bendigo be powered entirely by renewable energy and we now have an action group specifically looking into achieving this (Repower Bendigo). We don’t know all the answers to achieving this yet, but we do know that Bendigo and region use around 300 MWh a year in electricity so large scale solar could in the long term be a good option towards achieving our vision.

A big missing at the moment is implementation of large scale solar in Australia (compared to rest of the world) largely due to poor government policy and funds for large scale renewable energy. Up to $10billion dollars has been promised using revenue from the carbon price which would make a huge difference in getting Australia started and skilled up / building up industry and jobs in large scale renewables, but this part hasn’t been passed in legislation yet so there is a risk that it won’t happen.

The 100% Renewables 2012 campaign is about building up community support for large scale solar as a way to educate the public on the viability of this technology that is currently being implemented around the world and to demonstrate public support to government to ensure the $10billion does go towards renewable energy projects. Community groups all over Australia are taking part in this fun and positive campaign.
